Ladies sangeet

Ladies sangeet, originally uploaded by India Pictures.

Sangeet or Ladies Sangeet is a pre wedding celebration of Hindu and Sikh weddings especially in North India.Women are usually involved in this event where they sing folk songs sometimes teasing the family of the Groom or the bride depending on where the event takes place

- Dry Your Eyes

2007 Fave - Dry Your Eyes, originally uploaded by jigarchamp.

After the wedding ceremony, the bride was saying goodbye to her family (called a Vidaii in Hindu tradition). This is one of my faves because for this brief moment, it was just a father and his daughter...the people around them didn't matter.

Just going through a bunch of photos from the past year, this one always makes me pause and go back to the moment.

I think about what I was thinking as a photographer: This kind of moment is what a wedding photographer should love to capture. How can I stop this moment without getting in the way, etc, etc.

I think about the bride and what her father are going through especially in this situation where she will be living half a continent away.

The Hindu wedding ceremony consists of various prayers, punctuated by the couple, tied together, walking around a fire (which represents purification) seven times. Ritika lead some of the circles I think

you can see the beadwork very nicely in this pic. The big design is at each corner, and the rest of the fabric just has a simple sequin coverage. This dupatta is quite light.

Pallu #2

Pallu #2, originally uploaded by jigarchamp.

From a Sikh wedding ceremony when the groom leads his new bride around the Guru Granth Sahib. I still find this to be so meaningful since both the bride and groom hold their ends rather than being tied together. Even though I don't know the exact history behind this, I see this as a sign that the couple are entering their marriage fully of their own will...that they could conceivable just drop their end of the pallu, but they're committed.

Third in my series of hands from a Hindu wedding.

The groom leading his bride around the holy fire. The first three times around the fire, the groom leads his bride. On the fourth and final time around the fire, the bride leads her groom.

A bridal portrait after the ceremony. I just loved this spot in the corner of the hotel & knew I could create something special. I don't normally do so much photoshop on wedding photos, but I just knew this bride would love this classic look especially since it's not something every Indian bride receives as part of her wedding photography.

Indian Wedding: The Scene

Indian Wedding: The Scene, originally uploaded by madhatrk.

Mumbai, India: Indian Wedding: The wedding scene had been set up to look like a palace. Giant horses and statues of batteling warriors (think Greek Mythology) abounded along with the fountains.
This section was easily the size of a football field. There was a separate section of equal size house all of the massive food tables. They even had a Baskin Robbins there
